Résumé

Books are still regarded as the leading medium for the storage and transmission of information. However, both German copyright law and the practice of collective rights management distinguish between books in printed and electronic form. In contrast, European copyright law is neutral to the manifestation of literature. The article shows the background and effects of this tension.
